Back in Berkeley, Mr. Beil hunkers down in the shade of redwoods along Cordonices creek.  Harassed by careening art cars, tortured by the sound of waterfalls, and annoyed by the ruminations of wild ungulates, he takes refuge in the bosom of family and friends.
